Who sleeps well the night before they have to leave early morning for a trip? I know I do not. I woke up at 3 to get ready to leave the house at 4:30. We are flying Jet Blue from JFK to Chicago and easy two hour uneventful flight. I get the Bill up and away we go....
We enter The rain filled skies of Chicago, then head to the Alamo Car Rental and work out a cheap upgrade for a Taurus with a Sunroof. I know Bill loves to get that sun. The car is a great car. We are happy and impressed now of we can figured out all the buttons and not open the sunroof in the rain we will be fine.
Our first drive takes us to downtown Chicago and we begin at Lake Shore Drive. Getting into Chicago is a pain as any major city at rush hour during the morning.
We drive through a not very pretty, industrial section of Chicago. Couple that with the rain, normal mere mortals would be depressed but not the Bill and I. We love it all.
The road signs, historic makers are well placed so far in Illinois. After a few hours we being to get hungry. So we make our first diner stop at a place call The Dome Family Diner. My God the breakfast is huge. I order eggs sunny side up but was not expecting four of them, hash browns, toast and continuous coffee refills.
We had our fill and got back on the road....
Bill has been handling the road maps really well. He seems on top of his game even though we are both tired for lack of sleep. We keep going until we hit a a place Bill mentions he would like to get a photo.
